Nature & trekking

Atlas Mountains

Ninety minutes from Marrakech's traffic, the High Atlas delivers snow-capped peaks, walnut-shaded valleys, and Berber villages stacked up hillsides like they grew there. North Africa's highest mountains are astonishingly accessible.

Hiking is better with company — trail partners and guided group treks are among the most-joined activities on Ahmanar.

Don't miss

Top things to do

  1. 1Summit Mount Toubkal — North Africa's highest peak (4,167m), a two-day trek with a mandatory local guide.
  2. 2Valley walks from Imlil — easy half-day trails through villages, orchards, and irrigation channels centuries old.
  3. 3Tea with a Berber family — the region's real highlight: bread, honey, walnuts, and hospitality in a village home.
  4. 4Ourika Valley waterfalls — the classic day trip: seven falls, riverside tajine restaurants, mountain air.
  5. 5Mule trek to a mountain lodge — let a mule carry the bags to a kasbah with the best sunset terrace in the Atlas.
  6. 6Ouirgane & the Agafay desert edge — quieter valleys and stone-desert camps with Atlas views, no long drive needed.
